Dr Stefan Günthner has been head of PtX technology at PtX Lab Lausitz since September 2025. There, he is responsible for analysing existing and new PtX processes from a technical and economic perspective. He is also overseeing the planned construction and operation of a demonstration plant that will produce sustainable aviation fuel in Lusatia.
Previously, he led the team for the ramp-up and operation of the power-to-liquid plant in Werlte (northern Germany) at Solarbelt FairFuel gGmbH, a sister organisation of atmosfair. At the same time, he initiated projects for biomass-to-liquid plants in countries of the Global South.
Dr Günthner began his career at a major automotive supplier, where he worked in management positions for 19 years, including as head of a global team of project managers for algorithms in driver assistance and semi-automated driving functions.
He studied physics with a focus on theoretical astrophysics at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and earned his doctorate in microsystems technology at Saarland University.
