Flying without flight shame? PtX Lab Lausitz talks about the climate impact of aviation

Students in a lecture theatre during a lecture.

PtX Lab Lausitz discusses the impact of flying on the climate in the ‘Open BTU’ lecture series.

Anita Demuth, Head of the Mobility Department at the PtX Lab Lausitz and an expert on Power-to-X (PtX) in the transport sector, will give a public lecture on the topic of "Mayday, Mayday: The climate impact of aviation is increasing" as part of the "Open BTU" lecture series.

Her lecture concludes the lecture series of the winter semester 2025 at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU).

In her presentation, Anita Demuth sheds light on how aviation can become independent of fossil paraffin by using sustainable aviation fuels.

Are there alternatives to fossil jet fuel?

How can flying become more climate-friendly - and is that even realistic? In her presentation, Anita Demuth shows concrete ways in which aviation can become less dependent on fossil fuels through the use of sustainable aviation fuels (synthetic aviation fuels, SAF for short).

The focus will be on synthetic eSAF, which is produced using green hydrogen and renewable energies - a promising step towards climate-friendly aviation and a genuine mobility transition.

Open BTU – Knowledge for all

The event is part of Open BTU (Open university), an open educational format organised by BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. The aim is to make socially relevant topics accessible to all interested parties. After the lecture, there will be an opportunity for direct dialogue with the speaker.

  • Location: BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg (exact venue to follow)
  • Free admission – registration is not required
