PtX Lab Talk #14: FuelEU Maritime – From Regulation to Responsibility in Maritime Transport

At the end of the first review period of the FuelEU Maritime Regulation, PtX Lab Lausitz discusses the impact of the regulation on environmental and climate protection.
The FuelEU Maritime Regulation (EU) 2023/1805 promotes the decarbonisation of shipping and encourages the use of sustainable fuels. Its aim is to increase the share of renewable and low-carbon fuels in the fuel mix of international maritime transport and to reduce GHG emissions from shipping. FuelEU Maritime does not prescribe a specific maritime fuel.
The first review period of the regulation ends in 2025. Compliance strategies that have so far only been considered in theory must be put into practice by the end of the year and adapted to future review periods.
PtX Lab Talk #14, entitled ‘FuelEU Maritime – From Regulation to Responsibility in Maritime Transport’, focuses on the climate-related status quo of maritime transport and the details and implementation of the FuelEU Maritime Regulation. The aim is to analyse opportunities for improvement and formulate recommendations for future adjustments.
The Focus is on the following Questions
- What implementation paths does FuelEU Maritime propose in detail?
- What fuel options are currently available?
- What impact on environmental and climate protection can be expected from FuelEU Maritime?
