PtX Lab Lausitz participated in the anniversary edition of Brandenburg Energy Day with an information stand. The 25th annual meeting took place on 11 June 2025 at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) and once again brought together leading energy companies, small and medium-sized enterprises from across various industries, scientists and 50 exhibitors.

Under this year's motto ‘Interim results and outlook for the energy transition’, the speakers from PtX Lab Lausitz also engaged in discussions with the more than 600 participants.

Also represented in the exhibition area were the team from the Competence Centre on Climate Change Mitigation in Energy-Intensive Industries (KEI), another division of Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH, and the Cluster Decarbonisation in Industries (CDI).

Panel discussion with minister kicks off Brandenburg Energy Day

To kick things off, Daniel Keller, Brandenburg's Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Protection (MWAE), visited the event. He opened the conference together with Prof. Dr. Gesine Grande, President of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, and Jens Warnken, President of the Cottbus Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

The minister then took part in a panel discussion on the question ‘Are we on track with the energy transition in Brandenburg?’.

The panel discussion, which included Keller and experts from science and industry, showed that Brandenburg is leading the way when it comes to the energy transition. The federal state has already reduced around 57 percent of its greenhouse gas emissions. In comparison, the other federal states are at around 40 percent, explained Daniel Keller.

Brandenburg is now one of the leading federal states in the expansion of renewable energies and is making an important contribution to achieving the German government's climate targets. And we are not standing still.

Expert exchange on the key issues of the energy transition

In the afternoon, the attendees discussed various key issues of the energy transition in four parallel expert forums: energy efficiency, renewable energies, sector coupling and digitalisation.

The expert forum on ‘Energy transition through energy efficiency’ was moderated by Jakob Flechtner, head of KEI. Using several best practice examples, the participants discussed financial incentives from support programmes and the use of high-temperature heat pumps and heating networks.

There was agreement among those present that this area offers scope for the energy transition. ‘Despite obvious potential for cost savings and climate protection, energy efficiency measures are often not implemented or only partially implemented,’ said Jakob Flechtner, summarising the discussions.

About Brandenburg Energy Day

Brandenburg Energy Day is the traditional annual meeting of the regional energy industry. It is held regularly under a changing motto.

The event is organised by the Brandenburg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Energy (MWAE). Co-organisers are the Brandenburg State Working Group of Chambers of Industry and Commerce, the Berlin-Brandenburg Energy Technology Cluster of the Brandenburg Economic Development Corporation (WFBB) and the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.

For PtX Lab Lausitz, this was already its third appearance at Energy Day in 2025.
