Power-to-X Power and the energy transition
PtX Lab Facts | 06/2024 | Topic: PtX | 2 pages
Germany, together with the other EU member states, has set itself the goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050. This goal requires the complete decarbonisation of the energy system. Sector coupling, the interconnection of the electricity sector with other sectors such as industry and transport, plays a decisive role in this.
Power-to-X (PtX) technologies are an important tool for sector coupling. These technologies convert electrical power from renewable energies into thermal energy or chemical energy, for example in the form of green hydrogen, and then into various fuels and raw materials.
PtX products can only contribute to achieving national and international climate protection targets if the electricity required comes from renewable sources.
