PtX Lab Talk #19: Net Zero Framework – Between Climate Action and Global Justice

International shipping is at a turning point. The International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Net Zero Framework (NZF) is intended to be the first global plan to guide the sector towards climate neutrality. 

However, following the postponement of the decision on the regulatory framework, key questions remain unanswered: How ambitious can a global climate protection programme be when economic interests and geopolitical conflicts collide? And how can a fair balance be struck between industrialised and developing countries?

Against this backdrop, the PtX Lab Lausitz invites you to the digital PtX Lab Talk #19 on 24 September 2026 from 1.00 pm to 2.30 pm, entitled ‘The International Maritime Organization’s Net Zero Framework: Between Climate Protection, National Interests and Global Justice’. 

The online event will examine the latest developments following the IMO’s ISWG GHG 22 (22nd session of the Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Ships) interim meeting and provide an outlook on MEPC (Marine Environment Protection Committee) 85 in December 2026.

Together with invited experts, we will discuss what steps need to be taken now to decarbonise shipping – and how this might impact the use of climate-neutral fuels.
