Climate protection in focus: In Cottbus, interested citizens and experts discuss successes, failures and strategies for a sustainable future.

On 1 October, the UPJ association held the ‘Youth, Climate, Economy’ barcamp at the Bunter Bahnhof event centre in Cottbus. The aim was to bring together young people, business representatives and climate activists to discuss pressing climate change issues and develop solutions. A barcamp is an open event format in which the approximately 70 participants set the agenda and topics of the sessions themselves, introduced topics, moderated their own sessions and participated in discussions.

Katrin Puhr and Vincent Noack from the PtX Lab Lausitz were also there. In their session, they provided an overview of what Power-to-X (PtX) technologies are and what their significance is for the defossilisation of industries such as aviation and maritime transport. They discussed with the participants, for example, the question of what conditions are needed in Lusatia for the use of PtX technologies and how the region can benefit from these technologies.

Ideas and solutions for the goal of climate neutrality

The ‘Youth, Climate, Economy’ barcamp showed the willingness of the participants to actively shape the future. The interdisciplinary discussions between young people, climate activists, politicians and business representatives created space for creative ideas and new perspectives.

Our colleagues from the PtX Lab particularly emphasised the multitude of different ideas and solutions that were debated during the sessions. Topics such as urban gardening, sustainable consumption, but also the promotion of renewable energies and possibilities for the defossilisation of the economy showed that change is possible.

The barcamp was held as part of the programme ‘Future Enterprise: Youth and Business in Brandenburg’. ‘Future Enterprise: Youth and Business in Brandenburg’ is a project of UPJ and is funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MBJS) of the State of Brandenburg. Partners of the barcamp were the Stiftung Bürgermut and the Freiwilligenagentur Cottbus.
