In view of geopolitical developments, the European Union’s resilience, competitiveness, economic security, and strategic autonomy are increasingly challenged.
In view of geopolitical developments, the European Union’s resilience, competitiveness, economic security, and strategic autonomy are increasingly challenged.
In this context, the European Commission’s proposal for an Industrial Accelerator Act, published on 4 March 2026, recognises that the EU’s industrial base, its innovation capability and the integrity of the single market are fundamental to reducing third country dependencies.
In response, the PtX Lab Position Acceleration of industry capacity and decarbonisation in strategic sectors puts forward four concrete recommendations aimed at increasing industrial capacities in strategic sectors and to support the EU in achieving its ambition to become climate-neutral by 2050:
- Adopt delegated acts in a timely manner
- Introduce a voluntary label for low-carbon industrial products
- Plastics must be included in the IAA’s lead market Framework
- Ensure alignment with circular economy/recycling
