PtX Lab Lausitz discusses the risks and opportunities of hydrogen-based fuels at the European Biomass Conference

Dr Harry Lehmann, Head of the PtX Lab Lausitz, moderates a panel discussion at the EUBCE

In 2024, PtX Lab Lausitz was an exhibitor at the European Biomass Conference & Exhibition (EUBCE) in Marseille for the first time.

At this year's European Biomass Conference & Exhibition (EUBCE), the team from PtX Lab Lausitz used sustainability analyses to explain the risks and opportunities of hydrogen-based fuels. The conference took place in Marseille from 24 to 27 June 2024. Once again, the EUBCE, which was once organised and established by the European Commission, was dedicated to the use of biomass as a raw material for bioenergy and fuels, as well as their impact on the environment and society.

The Lausitz experts on site not only participated in and moderated discussion rounds, but also presented current publications from the PtX Lab Lausitz. As part of the presentation of a poster on the "Sustainability analysis of fuels from green hydrogen and biogenic carbon – socio-economic risks and opportunities", Nils Fuchs, an expert at PtX Lab Lausitz, spoke about the importance of closed CO2 cycles in the production of power-to-liquid (Ptl) fuels for air and sea transport.

The head of PtX Lab Lausitz, Dr Harry Lehmann,  moderated a series of lectures on the topic of "Hydrogen production from biomass raw materials" and took part as a panellist in a discussion on synthetic fuels and the use of resources in their production. Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Voswinckel, deputy head of PtX Lab Lausitz, also presented the work of the Lausitz think tank at an industry round table at the conference.

The PtX Lab Lausitz on the road

The employees of PtX Lab Lausitz not only provide important impetus for politics and business. The interdisciplinary experts also regularly take part in trade fairs and conferences in Germany and Europe. Immediately after the EUBCE, Lukas Horndasch and Sven Kühnel, both experts in chemistry at PtX Lab Lausitz, represented the Think and Do Tank at the Petrochemicals & Climate Change Conference in Cambridge. There, they presented the current PtX Lab Facts for a sustainable chemical industry in the context of lectures and discussion rounds.

The dates on which the employees of PtX Lab Lausitz can be met can be found at any time on the website under the heading Meet & Greet“, and their own events can be found in the Events section.

About the EUBCE

The European Biomass Conference & Exhibition (EUBCE) covers the entire biomass utilisation chain. It covers all aspects of biomass, from resources and accompanying research, including innovation, to use and political measures. The aim is to reconcile sustainability, environmental protection and economic aspects in the use of biomass, as well as to network universities, research institutions and industry. EUBCE 2024 took place from 24 to 27 June 2024 at the Chanot Convention Centre in Marseille (France). During the four-day conference, the predominantly European participants presented around 200 oral presentations and over 500 posters.
