Competence centres KEI and PtX Lab Lausitz present current projects and plans.
Together with the Competence Centre on Climate Change Mitigation in Energy-Intensive Industries (KEI), PtX Lab Lausitz welcomed a high-ranking delegation from India to its premises. The guests included representatives of state-owned companies, scientific institutions and organisations committed to sustainable development in energy, environmental and resource management in India.
To accelerate the transition to a low-carbon industry, India is focusing on international cooperation, technology transfer and networking between politics and industry. The trip to Germany organised by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the International Climate Initiative (IKI) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) also had this goal in mind.
The delegation visited various locations throughout Germany to promote dialogue on the economic, technological and regulatory aspects of Germany's path to industrial transformation.
Competence centres present their work
The meeting in Cottbus focused on the strategic support provided by the two competence centres for the transformation process. Representatives of the KEI and the Cluster Decarbonisation in Industries (CDI) emphasised that scientific analysis, the identification of knowledge gaps and the initiation of cooperation in conjunction with a sustainable and focused exchange of knowledge play a central role in the transformation process. Dr Sarah Bernhardt, Deputy Head of PtX Lab Lausitz, outlined the path to fossil-free chemistry.

The path to climate-neutral chemistry can only be taken together with politics and industry. Without reliable regulations, necessary investments will only be made hesitantly.
After the technical presentations, the participants exchanged views on various government funding instruments and aspects of national emissions trading. The Indian representatives explained the role of the public sector in India in climate protection.
From coal mining to a model region for renewable energies
The tour of the former Jänschwalde opencast mine, which is currently being recultivated into the Cottbus Baltic Sea, was particularly impressive. Here, the delegation witnessed the transformation from a former coal-mining region to a modern, sustainable energy region.
The exchange with international guests serves to promote partnerships and knowledge transfer for sustainable industrial development. The PtX Lab Lausitz, which focuses on laying the foundations for the sustainable, environmentally friendly production and use of Power-to-X (PtX) products and promoting their rapid and successful market launch, uses such dialogues to strategically establish cooperation and gather valuable impetus for its own ideas.
