The PtX Lab Paper Intercrops: Biomass potential for sustainable raw materials and fuels? examines the extent to which biomass potential can be increased through advanced land use, in particular intercropping.
Both globally and regionally, biomass potential is limited. It is not sufficient to meet the demand for fossil-free fuels, raw materials and other materials.
New agricultural technologies and advanced land use are intended to increase biomass potential. The cultivation of catch crops, which is gaining increasing attention, is intended to increase potential through additional growing seasons. Intercrops grow between two main crops, thus increasing biomass and yield potential.
