Atlas reveals regional land potential

The PtX Lab Lausitz in Cottbus supports the development of a sustainable hydrogen economy in the region. The goal of the competence center is to establish the technical foundations for the environmentally friendly production and use of Power-to-X products based on green hydrogen and to support their market ramp-up.

In this context, the potential for utilizing renewable energies in Lusatia is being investigated. The focus is on identifying suitable areas for wind energy and photovoltaics (PV) to produce green hydrogen. The results are presented in a comprehensive potential atlas.

The analysis considers, among other things, the potential of rooftops and open spaces, as well as innovative concepts such as Agri-PV (combining agriculture and solar power generation on the same land) and Floating-PV (PV systems on bodies of water). Using modern GIS analyses, regional land potentials were systematically evaluated and documented.

The project supports the structural change in Lusatia and strengthens the region as a future location for renewable energies as well as synthetic fuels and raw materials.
