Lausitz Energy Region: Potential Atlas for Renewable Energy and Power-to-X

The PtX Lab Lausitz and Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences investigated the potential for expanding renewable energy in the Lausitz region. They have presented their findings in an online tool.
The PtX Lab Lausitz and Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences analysed which areas in the Lausitz region are available and suitable for the installation of photovoltaic and wind power plants. The experts also determined the quantities of green electricity that could be generated in future in the individual municipalities and districts of the Lausitz region.
If the region’s overall electricity demand is also taken into account and deducted from the renewable energy potential, this results in a surplus of renewable energy. This surplus can be used to produce green hydrogen and other PtX products, such as e-kerosene.
The experts have also assessed these PtX potentials at the level of municipalities and districts, and these are presented in a new and interactive online potential atlas.
Presentation of the Online Potential Atlas and the Results of the Potential Analysis
As part of the online event ‘PtX Lab Release’, the authors will first present the methodology behind the potential analysis and the functions of the online tool. They will then present and explain the renewable energy and PtX potentials of Lusatia. In the concluding Q&A and discussion session, participants will have the opportunity to explore the results and their significance for the transformation of the Lusatia energy region in greater depth.
