Resilience by Design – How eSAF Strengthens the Climate, the Economy and Security

How can Europe scale sustainable aviation fuels while strengthening competitiveness, security of supply and industrial agency? PtX Lab Lausitz invites stakeholders to a policy dialogue in Brussels in December 2026.
Sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), and especially electricity-based fuels, are more than a technical compliance issue for aviation. eSAF is a test case for Europe’s ability to build climate-neutral industrial value chains, mobilise investment and strengthen strategic agency in sectors that are difficult to decarbonise.
Existing expertise, lack of implementation
The European Union (EU) currently has a very solid knowledge base in the field of Power-to-X (PtX) technologies, enjoys high visibility within the research community, and the patent landscape is also positive. However, economic and trade data do not adequately reflect these favourable starting conditions. When it comes to bridging this gap, considerations regarding resilience are of central importance for the EU. We ask: Can the market launch of eSAF serve as a stress test for a resilient green transition in Europe?
