EUSEW 2026: PtX Lab Lausitz is Hosting a Policy Session on Sustainable Aviation Fuels

Banner EUSEW 2026

Under the title ‘Sustainable Aviation Fuels As a Stress Test for EU Decarbonisation Policy’, the PtX Lab Lausitz uses eSAF as a case study to discuss what needs to change in order to reconcile climate targets, competitiveness and resilience.

How can Europe’s decarbonisation targets be achieved whilst strengthening competitiveness and resilience? This question is the focus of an interactive discussion session organised by the PtX Lab Lausitz. The focus is on eSAF (electric-based sustainable aviation fuel) as a key technology for climate-neutral aviation – one of Europe’s most economically significant yet hardest-to-decarbonise sectors.

The event will examine current political developments and contextualise key European Union (EU) initiatives such as the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP). At the same time, it will provide an opportunity for an initial look ahead at upcoming regulatory processes in 2026, including the review of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and the discussion regarding its potential extension to international flights.

The panel discussion, titled ‘Sustainable Aviation Fuels As a Stress Test for EU Decarbonisation Policy’, brings together contributions from EU institutions, industry and civil society, and also gives participants the opportunity to actively engage through surveys or by speaking up. It is organised in collaboration with Transport & Environment (T&E) as a side event of EUSEW 2026.
