ReFuelEU Aviation is introducing a blending quota for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) in the European Union. For a transitional period, SAF suppliers can distribute the available fuel flexibly within the EU. By mid-2024, the Commission must evaluate developments in the production and supply of SAF. The aim is to expand the "flexibility mechanism" if necessary - possibly with elements of a "book-and-claim" (B&C) system. But is such an approach suitable for promoting the market ramp-up of sustainable kerosene? And what other challenges arise? The PtX Lab Lausitz will discuss this together with experts and also present its own study.
