PtX Lab Lausitz Publishes Statement on AccelerateEU

Position paper sets out five recommendations to strengthen Europe’s energy security through Power-to-X.

Current geopolitical developments are increasingly confronting the European Union with challenges to its energy security. These developments are also affecting the competitiveness and industrial resilience of the Member States.

The Communication “AccelerateEU – Energy Union: Affordable and Secure Energy through Accelerated Action”, published by the European Commission on 22 April 2026, recognises that Europe’s dependence on imported fossil energy sources continues to represent a structural risk for households and businesses.

At the same time, the Commission combines short-term relief measures with the objective of accelerating the expansion of clean, domestic and affordable energy.

In response to the European Commission’s communication, PtX Lab Lausitz has formulated five further recommendations in its position paper AccelerateEU: Accelerated Actions are Urgently Needed for Energy Security. These outline concrete steps through which the EU can reduce fossil dependencies while simultaneously strengthening the scale-up of Power-to-X technologies.

The recommendations are as follows:

  1. stronger coordination between Member States and international partners;
  2. support for Member States in protecting consumers and industry from price shocks;
  3. acceleration of homegrown clean energy and electrification;
  4. strengthening of the energy system; and
  5. increased public and private investment in the energy transition.

    In its position paper, PtX Lab Lausitz welcomes the fact that the European Commission regards the energy transition as the central response to Europe’s fossil dependencies.

    According to a further conclusion of the Cottbus-based experts, PtX products must be advanced strategically wherever they are indispensable for defossilisation and security of supply. This applies in particular to aviation, shipping and parts of the chemical industry.
